Ingrid Winther Scobie papers, 1900-1990.

Letters, diaries, photographs, financial records, teaching and research files pertaining to Scobie's work, her personal and family life. The bulk of the collection consists of research files pertaining to Helen Gahagan Douglas (1900-1980) actress and politician, who in the 1940s was elected three times to the U. S. House of Representatives. Her attempt to win a Senate seat ended in defeat in 1950 with a smear campaign orchestrated by Richard Nixon. Scobie is the author of Gahagan's biography. Family records includes letters, diaries, and photographs of various branches of her family, including H. D. Galey, Oscar Osburn Winther (father and historian), James Scobie (husband and historian), and various children and other family members.
